Swindon's First
Street Art Festival! |
SWINDON PAINT FEST
Swindon Paint Fest, Swindon’s first street art festival is founded in 2022 and organised by Artsite. Its objective was to initiate the development of murals, public art and hold creative events as part of the regeneration of Swindon and enhancing the town centre. We aim to inspire the community and provide a platform for artists to be able to showcase their talents. Back in the 1980s, Swindon became the unlikely murals capital of the U.K. and the town once boasted over 40 murals. Only legendary Ken White’s 1976 Golden Lion Bridge and Sarah Faulkner’s 1985 Arkells Brewery seem to be left. So it’s become one of key goals to put Swindon firmly back on the street art map once again! It has had a tremendously positive impact to the town and the community since its implementation. Henceforth, we would aim to carry on fulfilling those objectives.
Following the success of the first festival in 2022, 2023's festival was bigger and better than ever garnering international recognition with hundreds of people coming to the festival over the weekend and enjoying all the amazing artwork in the sunshine. It brought over 50 talented artists with some of the artists travelling from as far as the United States and Spain. Workshops, exhibitions and live painting are held alongside the creation of street murals. Since the festival has ended, the artists’ works have transformed many areas of Swindon.
Going into its third year this year, we were fortunate to be able to obtain the Arts Council Grant and it will be held on the 31st August and 1st September 2024. Set that date to take a stroll, cycle or drive round to see the eye-catching and thought provoking artworks! Follow our socials at Instagram and Facebook to keep up to date! @swindonpaintfest
